In the wake of the flooding that devastated parts of North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Bavaria, and Saxony, the BVR and the DZ BANK Group made €1.25 million in national emergency aid available to the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) in summer 2021. The entities in the DZ BANK Group contributed €500,000 to this donation. The funds were used to finance three mobile pedestrian and road bridges in the Ahr valley.

Significant amounts of money were also collected for the relief effort through the cooperative crowdfunding platform ‘Viele schaffen mehr’, various cooperative foundations, and other donation accounts as part of the ‘Genossenschaften helfen’ [cooperatives help] initiative.
